THE FREEBOARD AND STABILITY OF DREDGERS AND BARGES WITH BOTTOM OPENING DOORS

After the 1966 International Load Line Convention (ILLC 1966) was enforced, previously 'non-convention' vessels such as dredgers and similar craft became 'convention' vessels, and the issuance of Load Line Certificates became required, one for international voyages and the other for the working condition. This article gives the various international and working freeboards that will be assigned to dredgers. Examples are also cited which show how the various freeboards were arrived at in order to meet stability requirements.
