PRESTRESSED PAVEMENT ACCELERATED TESTING PROGRAM. VOLUME 4

This report presents a test program to evaluate performance of prestressed concrete pavements. Effects of climatic exposure, prestressing, and traffic loading on features unique to prestressed pavements are considered. Instrumentation types and installation locations are discussed along with measurements to be obtained. Factors to be evaluated from field measurements on full scale slabs include the following: (1) Slab movements; (2) Temperature and moisture distribution; (3) Slab edge curling and warping; (4) Internal slab restraints; (5) Prestress losses; and (6) Response to traffic loading. A schedule for field measurements is provided. Data acquisition is initiated with construction. An accelerated traffic load test program is planned to be performed within one year. (FHWA)
