TEST ON SCALE MODEL FLOATING BREAKWATER

Experiments were conducted at one-tenth scale to test the performance of a Harris floating breakwater by measuring wave attenuation mooring forces and deflection of the model. A scale model for the Port of Le Havre in France was tested which was considered to be the smallest suitable for test in random sea conditions. The breakwater consists of horizontal plate floating in the surface of the sea held in position by mooring lines. The plate is of sufficient extent to obstruct the vertical component of orbital motion in the waves and of sufficient inherent strength to limit deflection. The plate floats with a low freeboard.
