Drug & Fatigue-Related Fatal Collisions in Canada | 2000-2018
This fact sheet looks at trends, 2000-2018, in motor vehicle fatal crashes in Canada involving drugs or fatigue. The Traffic Injury Research Foundation's (TIRF’s) National Fatality Database was used to compare driver and crash characteristics including gender, age, vehicle type, time of day, and number of occupants. Data includes: number of drug-related fatalities by victim category, percentage of fatally injured fatigued drivers testing positive for various categories of drugs, and percentage of fatalities drug-related or fatigue-related by season. Overall, there was an upward trend in drug-related fatalities in Canada during this time and a downward trend in crashes involving fatigue.
