A Empirical Study on the Effect of Expressway construction to the difference of the regional economic growth
The construction of expressway generally promotes the economic growth on the municipalities along the expressway. Thus, the order of the construction in the same region may yield the economic and social inequity on the municipalities along the expressway. This study focused on that issue using instrumental variables method and SCGE modeling. The result of the instrumental variable method using railway construction in early Showa era showed that the effect of the expressway construction to the population of the municipalities and GRP along the expressway. The result of SCGE model suggested that the order change of the construction will reduce the economic inequity among the municipalities, however the economy on entire region could be deteriorated.
