Trip Generation Estimation Methodology
This article discusses two foundational assumptions inherent in the Institute of Transportation Engineers' Trip Generation Manual. One is that trip generation is exclusively dependent on one independent variable. The second foundational assumption is that the proxy data are representative of the trip generation propensity of a specific proposed development. The article discusses how engineers use the manual to develop trip-generation methodologies.
