RAIL/BUS PASSENGER TRANSFER FACILITIES - L.A./SAN DIEGO CORRIDOR
A number of communities have proposed to build multimodal (bus/rail) transportation centers to consolidate local and intercity transit terminal requirements. Three of these proposed transit centers in Southern California are the subject of this paper. Advantages of combining intercity bus and rail terminals with local distribution modes include: economies of scale for the transit carriers; greater transit presence; improved level of service and/or choice for passengers; and the potential to bolster land development in the terminal environs.
