United States–Japan Bridge Engineering Workshop: Innovative Bridge Design and Preservation
The United States–Japan Bridge Engineering Workshop brings together bridge engineers from the United States and Japan to exchange promising ideas and technologies and share critical knowledge and lessons learned to further bridge engineering. The 2018 workshop focused on innovative bridge design and preservation issues of growing interest to both countries. This report is a summary of the 2018 workshop, including discussion topics of interest to bridge engineers. The workshop took place in Los Angeles, California, from July 17 to 18, 2018 and was structured around the following four topics: (1) bridge design, rehabilitation, and retrofitting for enhanced durability and preservation; (2) bridge instrumentation and health monitoring; (3) guidelines and use of refined numerical calculations for design and bridge assessment; and (4) innovative materials for bridge design and construction.
