SHIP-HANDLING TRAINING AT SWEDISH SIMULATOR
A description of a ship-handling training course at the Swedish State Shipbuilding Experimental Tank is given. The course utlilizes a computer simulation program, and the system as presently rigged, consists of a bridge mock-up with instrumentation and performance applicable to a modern large twin screw, twin rudder tanker, and this rig can be varied to suit other types and sizes of ship. The arrangement of the bridge mock-up is described, and it includes seperate controls for steering, navigation, and machinery spaces, as well as television screens giving a realistic presentation forward. Instrumentation included in the system, and their simulation capabilities and limits, are also briefly described.
