EXPERIMENTS ON VARIOUS CONTOURS AT CORNERS OF HATCHWAYS

ESPERIENZE SU RACCORDI DI FORMA DIVERSA AGLI ANGOLI DELLE BOCCAPORTE

The present report is intended to show the results of a series of tests carried out by pulling a section of a bulk-carrier main deck, and by having hatchway corners constructed of different designs, i.e. two rounded corners of elliptical profile, but with axes of different dimensions, a parabolic corner and a circular one. The specimen was designed to represent the main features of a bulk-carrier deck, but the hatchway coamings were not fitted. The hatchway dimensions were selected with a view to avoid reciprocal influence among the stresses at the four corners.
