VESSELS FOR SPECIAL CARGOES

Future ship designs for special cargoes are presented and classified according to ultimate use of the cargo. Basically these are fuels, agricultural chemicals. Ships in most trades will tend to increase in speed and size. But as the commodities change form for the benefit of the ultimate user, so too will the ship change its containment system. Special pollution prevention requirements will add to the capital cost of all ships. Special attention will be given to all methods of improving ship maneuverability. There will be added emphasis on special cargo carrier design to increase its capability for back haul cargo.
