SELECTING THE PROPER CARBON BRUSH
In addition to the need for good electrical conductivity, heavy demands are placed on the lubricating, thermal, and refractory properties of the brush material. No material other than carbon is capable of meeting these exacting requirements. The many factors that influence brush performance must be considered in making the proper selection of a brush grade for a particular application. The points discussed in this article include: criteria of good brush performance, brush film, nature of brush contact, electrographitic brushes, split brushes, physical versus operating characteristics, and applications.
