Remaining Service Interval: A White Paper
The remaining service interval (RSI) is a pavement lifecycle–management framework intended to help highway agencies make sound long-term investment decisions. The RSI approach uses one or multiple performance measures as the basis for setting and achieving highway performance goals. The approach can also be used for pavement lifecycle planning (LCP). This white paper outlines, in simple terms, the fundamental concepts associated with the RSI framework. The document leads the reader through the basic process of RSI application and uses simple examples to illustrate how the RSI framework can be used to support investment decisions. Additional references are provided to help implement these concepts.
