NATIONAL ENERGY RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION (NERD & D) - MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL CONSERVATION PROGRAM

The National Energy Research Development and Demonstration Council (NERDDC) was established in 1978. It advises the Minister for National Development and Energy on a coordinated national energy research, development and demonstration program (NERD & DP), support for individual energy research development and demonstration projects, and support for international projects. The council oversees the operation of 7 technical standing committees (TSCS) constituted to provide in-depth technical assessments of particular energy technology areas and projects submitted for funding. As part of its general conservation brief, TSC 6's responsibilities include management of the NERD & DP motor vehicle fuel conservation program. The program features a coordinated series of projects in a number of interrelated areas of motor vehicle technology including traffic management, electric and hybrid vehicles fuels in motor vehicles and motor vehicle design. This paper describes the thrust, extent and development of the program over the past 4 years and its current state of development (a). The paper was presented as Paper 13-Session 4-Research in Progress (SAE 82143). The number of the covering abstract of the conference is TRIS no. 367871. (TRRL)
