CENTRIFUGAL FAN TESTING AND RATING VERSUS SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

A centrifugal fan when installed in a duct system will often perform below the level expected by the system designer. This is usually due to the omission, in the design calculations, of consideration of the effects on the flow conditions at the fan inlet and outlet of the fan/system connections and accessories. By applying suitable "System Effective Factors" a more accurate forecast of fan/system performance can be made. Existing data on these "System Effect Factors" is inadequate and continuing research is needed. Presented is a summary of the "state of the art" and includes information collected from a wide variety of sources, including the experience of engineers in the fan industry and particularly that of members of the AMCA Fan Application Manual Committee.
