Teens and Speeding: Breaking the Deadly Cycle

This report examines speeding-related teen driver crashes and identifies resources to reduce the problem. It begins with an overview of crash statistics and explores the developmental issues and driver behavior that contribute to teen speeding. Recommendations are made regarding speed limits, driver education/training, graduated driver licensing, and peer-to-peer safety programs. Finally, approaches available to parents are outlined including in-vehicle driver monitoring, smartphone apps, in-vehicle safety technology, and parent-teen driving agreements.
