Aircraft Noise: Better Information Sharing Could Improve Responses to Washington, D.C. Area Helicopter Noise Concerns

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) conducted a study of helicopter flights and related noise issues in the Washington, D. C. area. They analyzed available data on operations, regulations, statutes, and policies, in ten local communities. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) addresses citizen's noise complaints; however, when a noise complaint is made to another agency, these are not communicated between the agency and the FAA. The GAO recommends the FAA develop a system of communicating complaints between other agencies and private helicopter operators.
