ICAO Environmental Report 2016: Aviation and Climate Change

The purpose of this report is share the progress that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has made on environmental protection in the past three years, since the 38th Session of the ICAO Assembly in 2013. Chapter 1 examines environmental trends in aviation through the year 2050. Chapter 2 provides an overview on aircraft noise. Chapter 3 delves into aviation impacts on local air quality. Chapter 4 considers global emissions within the contexts of aircraft technology, operational improvement, market-based measures, and alternative fuels. Chapter 5 presents state action plans for climate change mitigation. Chapter 6 discusses aircraft end-of-life and recycling. Chapter 7 describes the ICAO's efforts in climate change adaptation and resilience. The role of ICAO's many environmental partnerships is detailed in Chapter 8. Throughout the report, various case studies portray the results of the ICAO's initiatives on environmental sustainability.
