Determinants of Air-rail Integration Service Based on Structural Equation Modeling

With the combination of different advantages of air and rail transportation, air-rail integration service (ARIS) becomes a new trend in transportation market. To identify the determinants which impact ARIS and improve the service performance, the relationships among service quality, passenger satisfaction and passenger loyalty were explored. Based on the perceived data of intermodal passengers in Shijiazhuang, structural equation modeling (SEM) was constructed to demonstrate the hypotheses proposed in the present paper. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire rating scale were also examined to select reasonable and effective indicators before the modeling. The results of general SEM and exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) show that service quality has a significant positive influence on passenger satisfaction, as well as passenger loyalty in ARIS, and that passenger satisfaction has a significant positive influence on passenger loyalty. According to the fitting criteria, the fitting result of ESEM is better than that of general SEM. For different dimensions of service quality, reliability, emergency control and operation are the most significant, which is consistent with the actual situation. Managers of ARIS are recommended to pay more attention to the factors which affect service quality significantly, and corresponding measures are provided.
