On the Inclusion of Internal Curing in Proprietary, Prepackaged Cementitious Grout and Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) Materials: Research Findings
Proprietary, prepackaged materials such as cementitious grouts and ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) are commonly used in the construction industry due to convenience of usage and their enhanced properties compared to conventional concrete. However, due to particularities of their mixture designs, they are prone to undergo shrinkage, thus resulting in potential durability issues. This paper describes a methodology for including internal curing (IC) in these types of materials with the main goal of addressing some of their shrinkage and durability issues. The paper also provides a step-by-step procedure to include IC, along with a compilation of experimental results from other papers to show the effect that IC has on important material properties. The paper also briefly discusses material cost implication of including IC.
