The Correctness and Reaction Time of Piloting the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Correct and fast reaction during piloting the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is, at the moment, one of the best solutions for improving the safety of UAV operations in the airspace, since the regulations are on quite a high level. There is a lot of equipment on-board the UAV, such as camera or anti-collision sensors, which helps the remote pilot with piloting, but there are some cases when the remote pilot needs to rely on his own senses and vision. The fast and correct reaction during a dangerous situation can significantly contribute to reducing the accidents of the UAVs. In this research, the main interest was to test the correctness and reaction time of decisions in the real conditions during flight of a UAV. The research contained a wide spectrum of participants. The correctness and reaction time were measured based on responses to generated auditory stimuli, while the participants of this research were flying a predefined flight path. Based on the results, in the future the training of the remote pilots can be improved and unified exercises defined.
