Study on Discrete Autonomous Traffic Flow Model with Zero-Order Hold

The autonomous driving era is coming. Autonomous traffic flow systems have different properties compared with human-controlled ones. Therefore, in this paper, in order to discover the difference between them, the authors present a discrete sampling control model with zero-order hold for autonomous traffic flow systems. The authors first analyzed the main components of an intelligent car to understand its mechanism, then they built a continuous model based on Bando’s optimal velocity car-following model (OVM). Thirdly the authors brought out the discretion method for the continuous system’s transfer function by using the z-transform. Finally, the authors analyzed the stability and transient response of the system by computer simulation. The numerical simulations results verified the authors' theoretical supposition.
