Smart Infrastructure Asset Management System on Metropolitan Expressway in Japan
This paper presents an outline of smart asset management system for road infrastructure, which is currently operated in the Metropolitan Expressway Co., Ltd., a government-owned highway operator in Japan. This innovative system was developed to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in maintenance and management work for achieving sustainable road infrastructure by adopting various technologies, such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligent (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Robotic Technology, Mobile Mapping System (MMS) and Geographical Information System (GIS). The core technologies of the system and its practical operation are mainly described, including the tentative application to other infrastructure.
