Inclusive Shared Mobility: Enabling Service for Older Adults and People with Disabilities
This study examines inclusivity in ridehailing, carsharing, and bikesharing. Focus groups, surveys, and interviews with older adults and people with disabilities informed the research. Ten strategies were identified for mobility operators to improve inclusivity and increase access. These recommendations are broken down by category and include: for bikeshares, supplying adaptive bikes and electric-assist bikes; for carshares, providing wheelchair accessible shared vehicles and dedicated drivers for members; for ridehailing, mandatory wheelchair accessible vehicle policies and enhanced driver training; and for all, targeted outreach and education, subsidies for shared mobility users, and locating services around target populations. The appendix includes full survey data and results from the focus groups.
