AN EXAMPLE OF PAVEMENT DESIGN USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
UN EXEMPLE DE CALCUL DE CHAUSSEE PAR LA METHODE DES ELEMENTS FINIS
An attempt was made to define an adequate grid and to study the influence of limit conditions and type of elements used. The different results are compared to the analytical solution of the same problem. It was shown that the use of non-conform elements can improve the overall solution for stresses and displacements, but can create local discontinuity anomalies in the field of stresses. The results obtained in the case of an elastic multicourse system permit to envisage the application of the method to other types of behaviour and geometry. (TRRL)
