AN IMPROVED PROCEDURE FOR PREDICTING THE SPEEDS OF SURFACE SHIPS IN ROUGH HEAD SEAS
The document presents a procedure for predicting the speeds of surface ships in rough head seas. The procedure covers a rather wide range of displacement-length ratios and draft-length ratios. The method used consisted of calculating the slamming characteristics of a large number of systematically varied hull forms and then based upon the results of the slamming calculations, establishing correction factors to be applied to the rough water speeds as predicted.
