Research on Lane Number Decision of Freeway Reconstruction and Expansion Based on Life-Cycle Cost

According to the life cycle cost analysis method, the cost of freeway life cycle is divided into land opportunity cost, road construction cost, and road transportation cost. In this paper, the decision of lane number of freeway reconstruction and expansion is no longer made according to the traditional capacity, traffic volume, and traffic composition, but by discussing the economic attributes of freeway and their circulation forms, and finally obtain the lane number decision-making model of freeway reconstruction and expansion based on the life cycle cost. The model not only considers the economic aspect, but also adopts the capacity and safety indicators as constraints to ensure that freeway reconstruction and expansion not only meets the economic optimality, but also meets the patency and safety, and gives full play to the social and economic benefits.
