ROADS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS
This document sets out the county council's approach to, and requirements for,the layout, design and construction of highways and associated works within residential areas, against which applications for planning permission will be judged. It is based on the assumption that pedestrians and cyclists take precedence over vehicles within housing areas. A complete view of residential highway design is presented in five parts: 1, introduction; 2, heirarchy of road types; 3, providing for movement; 4, landscape design and specification; and 5, specifications for adoptable works. Five appendices cover: 1, geometric requirements for reversing vehicles; 2, roads in conservation areas; 3, vegetation protection on building sites; 4, residential roads which are not slow speed roads; and 5, roads in commercial and industrial areas.
