SEMINAR ON MEASURING SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR IN ROAD RESEARCH, VERMONT SOUTH, VICTORIA, 23-24 APRIL 1980. PROCEEDINGS

This report is the proceedings of a seminar which was designed to encourage greater communication between behavioural scientists working in Australia in the separate applied fields of traffic and road safety, travel demand and accessibility, and environmental impact. The formal papers are broadly representative of on- going research in Australia as it relates to road transport issues. The opening address concentrates on the need for more effective behavioural control. Three 'overview' papers give the state of the art in the separate fields of traffic and road safety, travel demand, and impact assessment. Papers were presented on the use of analytical tools and research techniques, social and behavioural issues, and transportation issues as applied to access and mobility. Specific methodological issues and each of the substantive research areas are considered in depth. Specific case studies are also presented. Practical sessions are reported. Common themes between the various research areas are the differences between objective and perceived variables and the limitations of existing data and approaches (a). (TRRL)
