BABACU TAR FOR PAVING
ALCATRAO DE BABACU PARA PAVIMENTACAO
This research deals with the carbonization and distillation of the babacu nut, including: (1) the whole coconut; (2) peeled off but retaining the seed kernel; (3) only the skin without the seed kernel. The following products were obtained: (1) coal and metallurgical coke; (2) gases and fuel for thermo-electric heating, and iron ore reduction using the direct method; (3) tar for paving and combustion; (4) pyroligneous acid for lumber immunization and sundry uses; (5) methanol. Tests with tar have been started with a view to its use for paving and heating furnaces. Crude pyroligneous acid has been tested for priming purposes. Adhesion studies have been made with tar. It is intended to conduct studies with tar for its use in soil stabilization, priming and coating. (TRRL)
