INTEGRATED TRAFFIC SIMULATION MODEL--PHASE I: VOLUME 4: REVISIONS TO THE UTCS-1 TRAFFIC SIMULATION MODEL TO ENHANCE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

This report describes revisions to the UTCS-1 Traffic Simulation Program to reduce computing (CPU) time, reduce data transfer (I/O) operations, and to reduce storage requirements. The work effort included: 1. Refine the existing code; 2. Incorporate the capability for a variable simulation time-step; 3. Abridge the existing fuel consumption and vehicle emission rate tables; 4. Pack the above tables to conserve storage; 5. Revise two major routines and develop a new car-following model. The estimated result is to reduce CPU time by at least 30 percent, reduce I/O operations by at least 90 percent and reduce required storage by approximately 10 percent. This volume is the fourth in a series of five.
