EVALUATION OF LONG, SLENDER SUSPENSION BRIDGES EXPOSED TO WIND
VINDTEKNISK VURDERING AV LANGE SMALE HENGEBROER
This report contains a design analysis of long and slender suspension bridges exposed to wind. The theoretical basis for the calculations is described and computations are made for various proposed designs. Eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes are evaluated for torsional and vertical vibrations. On this basis flutter and divergence speeds are calculated to give an estimate of the stability of the construction. Eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes are also evaluated for horizontal vibrations out of the cable plane. In addition, a complete dynamic analysis has been carried out for a number of the above mentioned structures with horizontal turbulent wind as load.(a) (TRRL)
