PROPOSED REVISIONS IN THE UNIFORM RELOCATION ACT

Although the 1970 Uniform Relocation Assistance and Property Acquisition Act has been largely successful, households whose financial resources disqualified them from subsidized housing while market-rate housing actually extended their means may have suffered inequities. A solution to this may be an increase in the range of financial assistance for all categories of displacees. District of Columbia's practice in this area is described. However, the greatest inequities are among displacees who relocate into rental housing. A complete change in the moving expense payment provisions is also recommended.
