PROPERTY ACQUISITION

The topic of the workshop on property acquisition was the legislation that is pending before Congress and which would overhaul the existing Uniform Relocation and Real Property Acquisiton Policies Act. Most conferees were against allowing a second appraisal provided for in S. 1108. Another area of discussion was business relocation. While conferees felt that the existing system for acquisition is working, it was suggested that if legislation were necessary, it take the form of a pilot program in order to test its theories. Another factor that was discussed was indirect compensation. It was agreed that efficient and dedicated personnel were essential for the success of a relocation assistance program.
