SAFETY MEASURES: THE CONTRIBUTION OF CARRIAGEWAY MARKINGS
This paper examines the road safety problem in Britain today, with particular reference to accidents on rural roads. The scope for low-cost, high-benefit engineering solutions to such problems is analysed, with particular attention being paid to the role of carriageway markings. The very favourable benefit to cost ratio of reflectorised road markings for road safety and traffic engineering purposes are advocated, and the before-and-after accident studies that have taken place in this area are described.(a) (TRRL)
