SOIL STABILIZED WITH LIME - PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION
SOLS TRAITES A LA CHAUX - PROPRIETES ET APPLICATIONS EN CONSTRUCTION ROUTIERE
Whatever the qualities of lime stabilized soil, it must not be subjected to stresses liable to lead to failure. Lime stabilized soil acts as a slab limiting the stresses and deformations on the natural soil. Its strength increases with time because of slow reaction. This characteristic, which extends the lifetime of the pavement must not be underestimated. All types of soil can be stabilized with lime except those containing sulphates and organic matter. However for each case a specific lime content and construction techniques must be adopted as a function of research results. Generally, a soil with a low clay content and plastic index from 7 to 17 can be stabilized satisfactorily. Lime stabilized soil is a recent material, and its potential has not been fully exploited. Further research should be carried out. (TRRL)
