DESIGN OF HARBOR STRUCTURES FOR BOATS
Design recommendations for fixed and floating boat harbor structures in northern climates are presented. These recommendations include estimates of stationary and moving horizontal and vertical ice forces on boat harbor structures. Additionally, methods to proportion and position structures, and methods to suppress and melt ice are recommended. ... Information, obtained from extended winter observations in two hundred northern harbors, on ice thicknesses, water temperatures, ice cracking patterns, ice collars on pilings, rubble ice accumulations, and damages is also given.
