ICE-BREAKING MECHANISMS FOR ICE-BREAKERS AND OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
Improvements in the mechanism of icebreaking having application to ship, ice-breakers, offshore drilling platforms and other structures interacting with ice are described. This results in a special lever mechanism for ship ice-breakers or barrier structures for protecting drilling platforms etc. ... Small scale prototypes were built and tested in order to prove the concept. Some comparison with the conventional technique of ice-breaking was done. The results so far obtained confirm the concept and show that a lever mechanism breaks ice more efficiently than conventional techniques. (Author)
