THE SHIP - ICE INTERACTION
A new ridge resistance theory is commented and its influence on bow angles shown. Screw-ice interaction is reviewed. Ice loading conditions for hull structure design are reviewed. Aspects of ice parameters, failure criteria, ice pressure and total ice load are described. Semi-analytical ice load models are mentioned. Full-scale measurements are discussed and some results presented. Long-term measurements during normal ship operation have proved useful, and results also from such tests with an icebreaker are presented. (Author)
