"FLINDERS TIDE": A SOPHISTICATED SUPPLY VESSEL FOR BASS STRAIT SERVICE
Larger ship construction may have declined in Australia but the sub-continent's ability to design and build sophisticated smaller ships is well demonstrated in this 52 m supply vessel recently launched by Carrington Slipways for domestic offshore service. Dynamic-positioning facilities are provided as well as a remote control system to support a seabed inspection vehicle. Twin-screw propulsion is based on General Motors EMD diesel engines developing 3,000 bhp, while eight Detroit Diesel engines are arranged to generate auxiliary power and drive three thrusters, fire pumps and hydraulic machinery.
