PREDICTING THE TEMPERATURE OF PISTONS OF SOME HIGHLY RATED MEDIUM SPEED DIESEL ENGINES

A method for determining the boundary conditions required for the finite-element prediction of piston temperatures is described. Emphasis is given to the gas-face boundary condition. Correlations for the oil-cooling heat-transfer coefficients are presented. It is shown how measured temperatures are analyzed to improve the predictive techniques. Current accuracy and probable future developments are discussed.
