DYNAMICS OF OFFSHORE CRANES

This paper describes studies of the dynamic behaviour of cranes used on fixed offshore installations. The studies encompass the development of an analogue computer model, the validation of this model by comparison with measurements undertaken on an operating crane, and an assessment thereby of the limits of validity within which simple mass-spring models with few degrees of freedom can be applied to the derating of offshore cranes.
