A BETTER WAY OF MEASURING YOUR FACTORY'S PRODUCTIVITY

Factory managers have had to work with inappropriate methods of productivity measurement. A research project was therefore undertaken by Huddersfield Polytechnic to develop and test a method that would assist managers to measure productivity and provide guidance for its improvement. Over two hundred firms in the machine tool, light engineering, and textile industries co-operated in the project. The Author gives a detailed account of the project and presents a new and easily-understood method of productivity measurement that was developed, together with results obtained with it. The method covers both labour and machinery.
