As a result of recent orders in the U.S.A. for rigidly connected ocean-going tug-barge combinations, there has been a renewal of interest in the British Murvicker system developed by the Vickers Shipbuilding Group in 1972. The original design has recently been modified and is now presented as the Murvicker II system. This article gives brief details of the connection concept for a tug and 2,000 dwt barge combination.
