RATIONALISATION OF DESIGN/TECHNOLOGICAL PREPARATION FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PIPE SYSTEMS IN SHIPBUILDING (PARTS I AND II)

The Authors describe in detail joint development of a computer-aided system in which the design and other technical aspects of preparation for the production of ships' piping are rationalised. The system, "KOTEG-Rohranlagen", was developed with the assistance of a sub-system ("Automated Production-Preparation") of the AUTRA program system. This sub-system is used in several industries. The main rationalisation feature of KOTEG-Rohranlagen lies in the automation of routine work and a consequent increase in the time available for more creative work in production preparation. Accurate production data, obtained at the same time, enable a higher production-preparation standard to be achieved in the work-shop and lead to economies in labour and material. Results at present available from the use of the system represent an initial introductory stage, and the system will be extended to meet requirements stemming from its practical application.
