PREDICTION OF STRUCTURE-BORNE NOISE IN SHIP

To meet the increasingly stringent regulations on the control of noise on board ships, it must be predicted and measures taken to control it at the design stage. To develop an accurate prediction method, noise and vibration have been measured in an actual ship. Structure-borne sound has also been calculated for the same ship, using the statistical energy analysis method on simplified calculation models. The calculated values are in good agreement with the measured ones and with available information concerning the transmission of structure-borne sound. It is considered that the statistical energy analysis method promised to be of practical use in the prediction of noise.
