THE USE OF HOLOGRAPHY FOR ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNS

LA SIGNALISATION ROUTIERE PAR HOLOGRAPHIE

The author recalls the advantages of holography for traffic signing compared to conventional techniques. Details are given of a traffic sign developed for a feasibility study conducted jointly by the LCPC and thr firms Hololaser and Mazda. The sign was installed on 3rd December 1979 in the access tunnel to the ring road at Porte Maillot, Paris. The geometric and photometric characteristics of the sign and the results of the survey on the legibility and visibility of messages are described. (TRRL)
