REAR SEAT PASSENGERS IN CARS

RUECKSITZPASSAGIERE IN PERSONENWAGEN

The article deals with accident conditions and causes, type and severity of injury and the effect of safety belts for rear seat passengers. A significant factor relating to the use of belts by rear seat passengers is the danger to front seat passengers from unbelted rear seat occupants. The effect of the belt with respect to the rear seat passengers themselves involved in an accident is about the same as it is for front seat passengers. Since less people sit in the back, the fatal accident situation will be less influenced by belts worn by rear seat passengers than by belts worn by front seat passengers, even allowing for the protection afforded to front passengers by rear seat passengers wearing belts.
