A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF DIFFERENT DEMOLITION PROCEDURES - CHOICE CRITERIA

ETUDE COMPARATIVE DES DIVERS PROCEDES DE DEMOLITION - CRITERES DE CHOIX

The demolition of concrete structures, either reinforced or non-reinforced, often faces the contractor with many problems. An essentially bibliographic study is presented recording the different methods which exist at present or are being developed, in order to compare them from the technical point of view. In particular a description is given of: mechanical processes such as percussion machines; diamond tipped tools and explosives; processes that use shock-waves or gas expansion; thermal processes: blow-torches or oxygen lances; experimental methods such as nibblers, high-pressure water jets and lasers. This critical study of the methods in use at present stresses the advantages and disadvantages of each technique in the light of use and environmental criteria. The user will thus be able to decide rapidly which process or processes can be used for the particular type of structure to be demolished. (TRRL)
