A CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF CREEP AND CREEP RECOVERY

CONTRIBUTION A L'ETUDE DU FLUAGE ET DU RETOUR DE FLUAGE

Research has been undertaken at the centre for the testing of structures at saint-remy-les-chevreuse, which is particularly directed towards the investigation of creep recovery (the reversible part of creep which occurs when stress is reduced) because this is an element on which research is less advanced than on creep alone. A large number of test specimens have been used to investigate the influence of the different parameters (age at loading, intensity and duration of loading, etc). However, since in order to have "creep recovery" there must first of all be "creep", this preliminary phenomenon has been examined as well. The problem of the interference between creep and its recovery is raised because the difficulty, or even the impossibility, of isolating "creep in its pure state" is involved. After the results obtained have been recorded, A method of calculation based entirely on formulae is proposed both for the assessment of creep and creep recovery under the most diverse conditions. A large number of examples are cited which show good correlation between results calculated from the formulae and experimental results. (TRRL)
